Module 1

1. Assessment of the learning objectives in ‘Types of dementia and different approaches; having an understanding of the types of interventions and awareness of the specific needs of people living with dementia and those of their caregivers’

Module 2

I have full confidence that I recognise and can adapt to any role that family, friends and the community may play in the life of the individual. I also recognize the adaptions that can be made in small changes to the environment for the individual (such as in the dementia friendly home)

Module 3

3. Assessment of the learning objectives in ‘Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) as an intervention for people living with mild to medium dementia, the reasoning behind the principles and the benefits of practical sessions’

3.1 Learning Outcome: Recognise and understand the different therapies that are available and comprehend CST design and evaluation, and the evidence base(Required)

Not full clarity regarding the principles and sessions and would not yet be confident in delivery

I have explored fully and have good working understanding; understand why I would deliver CST sessions

Confident to deliver well-prepared sessions to groups; also capable to continue to guide others in delivery, ensure all principles are taken into account

3.2 Learning Outcome: Appreciate the reasoning of the key principles and design of the sessions, with the ability to develop own sessions(Required)

Module 4

4. Assessment of the learning objectives in ‘The importance of dementia friendly environments and how to create them taking into account the significance of family, caregivers and social networks in care provision’.

4.1 Learning Outcome: Fully understand the significance of family, carers and social networks in planning and providing care, including developing partnerships with carers; empathise with the importance of recognising and assessing a carer’s own needs, including the need for respite(Required)

Understand most of the concepts and feel I have the ability to work with friends and family to assist them in the care of the person concerned

I am happy and confident to work with family and friends and am cognizant with the possibility of complex relationships and the effect this may have on the individual. Not sure I could recognize my own needs

Confident to apply all I have learnt together with other aspects and am keen to develop relationships and partnerships with carers of any nature, family, friends and the community. I do understand the need for respite care for all of these people

4.2 Learning Outcome: Appreciate the complexity and diversity in family arrangements; be able to support family carers with reference to support services and expectations(Required)

Fully understand most of the concepts and feel I have the ability to start to be able to support family carers, recognizing this is not a simple task

I have full confidence and I will ensure that all people involved in the care are taken into account, supporting relationships where they exist. I have the ability to ensure that people involved in the individual’s care would understand the different aspects of the dementia, the need for person-centred care and the need to understand fully any equality and diversity needs, together with cultural differences.

Awareness of some booklets relating to services available in the local area

I understand the differences that service types and providers may offer and recognise the need to assess any outcomes of the provision

I fully understand services available in the local area. I have visited the service providers and am confident that I have full knowledge of the service provider’s ability to provide an excellent service that can be utilized by anyone living with dementia, taking into account their individual needs and any cultural differences.

4.4 Learning Outcome: Be familiar with the concept and gain the knowledge of how to plan a dementia-friendly home, (own home or a care-home), recognising how small adjustments can make large improvements for the person living with dementia(Required)

I do not fully understand how small changes can make such a big difference to the person living with dementia
