But it\u2019s not just what happens on stage that has got people talking. A series of \u2018relaxed\u2019 showings in local theatres have prompted conversation about dementia-friendly services in local communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cThe play is relatively short, condensing three years of life into just 90 minutes. But in that\u00a0time, we see a series of emotional snapshots of a family coming to terms with Alice\u2019s diagnosis.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>A person-centred approach<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5919 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/dcare.training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/alice-img-1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dcare.training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/alice-img-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dcare.training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/alice-img-1-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dcare.training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/alice-img-1-768x510.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dcare.training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/alice-img-1-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/dcare.training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/alice-img-1-624x415.jpg 624w, https:\/\/dcare.training\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/alice-img-1.jpg 1100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>One key focus of the play is how Alice\u2019s family respond to her changing behaviour and common social stigmas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking at a Q&amp;A session in Plymouth, the cast explained how this is something they were keen to get right. In particular, the play shows the value of prioritising the emotions of the person with dementia in the moment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This sentiment is also carried into the design of the performances themselves. The cast and crew of Still Alice were supported by people living with dementia throughout the production. This includes the development of &#8216;relaxed&#8217; performances, designed to be more accessible to everyone affected by dementia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During these performances, the volume is lowered and lighting is set to a more comfortable level. The theatres also ensure there is a quiet environment outside of the main space.
