Friendly Home Toolkit

Toolkits for dementia friendly home

Caring for a loved one with dementia poses many challenges for families and caregivers (both professional and non professional). People with dementia from conditions such as Alzheimers and related diseases have a progressive biological brain disorder that makes it more and more difficult for them to remember things, think clearly, communicate with others, and take care of themselves. In addition, dementia can cause mood swings and even change a person’s personality and behavior.

This toolkit provides social and health care services operators (social assistants, voluntary associations, doctors), families and non professional caregivers and public bodies with social competencies and policies with clear indications, information, strategies & instruments for supporting the family members and carers in daily activities when their family members are affected by dementia. Thus the toolkit will also focus on practical recommendations and guidelines to improve the safety and to understand the needs of people with dementia, providing some practical strategies for dealing with the troubling behavior problems and communication difficulties often encountered when caring for a person with dementia, as well as practical indication to make easier the life in the home of a person with dementia and to improve their quality of life.
