2nd Newsletter for D-Care featured

Our 2nd Newsletter for D-Care is now available. Read it below and stay informed about our project.

Topics of the 2nd Newsletter:

  • Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST): Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is a methodology, proven to help people who have mild to medium dementia. There is no cure for dementia, but there are interventions, like CST, which improve the quality of their life. CST aims to support people with dementia to improve their memory and thinking skills and to cope with memory loss. The method was developed by the University of Central London (UCL) and now utilised by many countries.
  • Online Training course “Train the Trainers”: The training course that D-Care provides is based on Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST). The online training course is addressed to “Train the Trainers” in CST is already developed in English and partners are currently working on its translation in their national languages.
  • COVID-19 and dementia: The pandemic of COVID-19 affected both people with dementia and their caregivers. Physical distancing and loneliness are two aspects that both of them have to face. Contacts with families and friends are limited, social activities are restricted, people feel isolated and this has a negative impact to their mental health.
  • Self-care of caregivers: A caregiver needs respite and support in order to be able to offer support to people with dementia. They need to do activities that make them feel happiness and wellbeing. There are several ideas in the newsletter.
